The Twin Cities wrestling community came together on July 12 for the 2024 Summer Slam, hosted at Edison High School in Minneapolis. On the day of wrestling, Park Center’s Jackson Sanders represented the Northwest Suburban area at the event.

Summer Slam is an annual fundraiser for the Edison High School wrestling team to support their expenses. The event, which was free but encouraged donations, included a barbecue for attendees and a slew of wrestling matches that included high-level high school wrestlers and collegiate wrestlers.

The college wrestlers came from across eight different states, while the high schoolers were all from Minnesota. The schedule was designed to provide matchups that did not take place last season.

City schools were well represented from Edison, North, Southwest and Roosevelt, while the west metro was also present through the likes of Park Center and Edina.

The event concluded with two co-main events, Bravo Niyonkuru versus Sacha Naughton-Ron and Tyreik Davison versus Syron White, before the main event between Eddy Ndayikengurukiye and Randry Mugisha, which the latter won.

Jackson Sanders competed in two matches against junior college wrestlers, Tremayne Graham and Ulises Placido, at the event. The 160-pounder was dominant in both matchups despite some changes to his schedule on the day, winning his first match quickly in one of the more definitive performances of the early boys and men’s matches. Sanders then had to wait for a second match near the end of the main schedule.

The second matchup was a longer contest and tested Sanders’ persistence, but the Park Center Pirate did well to push through and show his stamina with a second win.
