A woman was killed and five more were injured as shots were fired amid "unruly" scenes in south Minneapolis Monday evening.

Minneapolis Police Department says gunfire erupted on Franklin Avenue East between 16th and 17th avenues south around 11:30 p.m., with officers arriving to find a woman with life-threatening gunshot wounds. She died a short time later at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Five other victims were found at the scene, including a man with potentially life-threatening-gunshot wounds, two men with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, and two women with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Police say that investigators are still trying to figure out the circumstances of the shooting, but say it did occur near a small encampment, and a single gun was recovered from the scene.

MPD says additional officers were also called to the scene to manage an "unruly crowd" of more than 20 people.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the dead woman's name and the cause and manner of death. No other arrests have been made at this time.
