There’s a new $2,500 reward being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever allegedly threw a cat from a 12th-floor apartment balcony in Minneapolis.

The incident was reported in May. According to the Home for Life animal sanctuary in Stillwater, the cat named "Rue" underwent a series of surgeries after landing on the pavement outside the Parkview Apartments in the 1200 block of N. 12th Avenue.

No one has been found responsible for throwing the cat and the case is listed as closed according to a police report.

"The fact that there are people saying that someone in the building knew who the cat belonged to, we're kind of astounded that the case has been closed," says Doll Stanley with California-based In Defense of Animals. "Now, it can be that sometimes somebody will say they saw something, and they did. And then maybe they're afraid of having to go to court. Maybe they are concerned about what their neighbors or neighbors might do."

Stanley hopes someone inside the Parkview Apartments hears about the reward.

"That cat is really, really lucky to be alive, and we believe that there's information enough that the case should be reopened," Stanley tells WCCO Radio. "If anybody that's in that complex or anywhere around that complex has information we would certainly like to have it."

Rue’s case, according to Stanley, is part of a larger deeper concern when it comes to domestic violence.

She says 77% of domestic violence cases involve someone harming their significant other’s animals, or their child’s animal.

“Animals are used as tools, which is so sad," Doll said. "Either to get back at someone, or to alleviate their own rage.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact In Defense of Animals , who will then present any information to the Minneapolis Police Department.
