A $2,500 reward has been announced for anyone that brings information that will lead authorities to the person responsible for throwing a young cat off a 12-story balcony last month.

The cat, called Rue, is believed to have been thrown from the balcony at Parkview Apartments in the 1200 block of N. 12th Avenue on June 24. Multiple bystanders witnessed the event, including children.

The animal protection organization In Defense of Animals announced the reward through a press release, promising it to whomever has information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the abuser.

According to the press release, someone who lives at the apartment building claims the cat was kept by a neighbor who no longer wanted her.

Rue is now in the care of Home for Life Animal Sanctuary and has undergone multiple surgeries for her injuries.

Minneapolis Animal Care and Control spokesperson Blair Loose confirms there is no active case due to lack of information. The case is classified as closed, according to a Minneapolis police report.

“Anyone who could throw a cat from a high-rise window is a danger to everyone around them and must be exposed and prosecuted to the fullest," said In Defense of Animals senior campaigner Doll Stanley. "Cruelty to animals is intolerable and no act of violence to an animal should be classified as 'case closed'."
