The Minnesota Vikings won't have a holdout with their rookie quarterback in 2024. The Vikings have signed the 10th overall pick quarterback J.J. McCarthy to a four-year rookie contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

There was a lot of discussion about McCarthy's contract potentially being a sticking point and causing a holdout. Rumors had been swirling for weeks about McCarthy wanting his signing bonus paid upfront instead of in installments. It appears they have figured out a process that works for both sides with the pay structure not yet known.

McCarthy getting his contract signed is huge for the Vikings. He will be in a competition with Sam Darnold for the starting quarterback job, but the reality is that McCarthy is in a competition with himself. He will be considered for the starting quarterback job once he hits certain benchmarks rather than directly competing with Darnold.

McCarthy is set to report to training camp on Sunday afternoon. His signing leaves just Dallas Turner unsigned in the Vikings draft class.
