Gallery: Reimagined Pillsbury Castle open for limited time tours

The massive Alfred Pillsbury mansion in Minneapolis is open for tours this month, offering the public a first look inside the reimagined architectural marvel.

Twin Cities couple Matthew Trettel and Ryan Hanson purchased the 121-year-old Whittier neighborhood landmark last year to be their private home, at the same time announcing the newly-named "Pillsbury Castle" would also serve as a place for holiday events and other festivities.

American Society of Interior Designers – Minnesota selected the mansion to be its 2024 Design Home (formerly known as the Showcase Home).

Following nine months of extensive remodeling, ASID Design Home 2024 home tours kicked off this month at the Pillsbury Castle.

The inside of the mansion now showcases the work for 30 local interior designers, eight remodeling contractors and more than 80 other companies.

While the tour offers unmatched design inspiration, the opening of the Pillsbury Castle also brings new opportunities to learn about local history; the Tudor Revival mansion was built in 1903 by architect Ernest Kennedy for Alfred Pillsbury, son of Pillsbury flour co-founder John S. Pillsbury, and his wife, Eleanor.

“We like to imagine Alfred and Eleanor walking through this house and being proud of what we accomplished here,” Hanson told Artful Living .
