Former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, the No. 10 overall pick to the Minnesota Vikings, was one of very few NFL rookies to have not signed their first contract until doing so Friday, according to reports. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, McCarthy is signing a four-year, fully-guaranteed contract worth $21.85 million that includes a $12.71 million signing bonus. The Vikings also have a fifth year team option.

McCarthy will enter training camp without any guarantee he will be Minnesota’s starter to begin the 2024 season. He’s battling with Sam Darnold and other veterans for the job.

    From On3:

[Vikings head coach Kevin] O’Connell, an NFL quarterback turned head coach, told ESPN when McCarthy might be ready to start. He said it depends on when McCarthy’s “comfort level” with the Vikings offense and “his ability to then translate it to adverse situations and difficult aspects of playing quarterback in the NFL aren’t magnified by inexperience.”

O’Connell added: “But I want to be very clear that the expectation is for this player to not be perfect. … He’s going to have growing pains, he’s going to learn on the fly. I’m not trying to remove that aspect of it, either, but [deciding when he will play] is not something you can write up on a board. It’s a feeling.”

According to Immerse Education, Michigan has the eighth most picturesque campus in the nation.

Michigan Stadium checks in as the third-best stadium in college football, according to ESPN.

    Quote Of The Day

“He’s a great dude. “We all know he can play football. But the thing that stood out to me the most was his message to stay humble. He contacted me and told me ‘I have your back.’ You don’t really get that family atmosphere at other colleges. I can’t stress that enough — the brotherhood, the brotherhood, the brotherhood.”
