7 must-see concerts this week: Foo Fighters, Extreme Noise, Palmfest

After Minnesota Yacht Club marked the return of big festivals to the Twin Cities, it’ll be hard to have quite as many showstopping names taking to local stages this week.
But you know what I’m going to say at this point. There are some seriously good shows this week. Seven feels like too few to highlight. Even with the great shows below, we’re passing over other killer concerts like Seun Kuti, Alpha Consumer, Primus, First Avenue’s Rock Lottery, DIIV, and Lambrini Girls.
Here are seven concerts you shouldn’t miss this week.
There are lots of worthwhile local shows on Monday, but the Austin-baed psychedelic metal group will hit 7th St. Entry, and it’s going to be a loud one. The Well's trippy brand of doom metal sways from psych to a sort of doom-infused folk at times.
Bizhiki is a new project combining the talents of singers Dylan Bizhikiins Jennings and Joe Rainey along with multi-instrumentalist and Bon Iver collaborator Sean Carey (aka S. Carey). Jennings and Rainey are powwow singers who collapse sonic expectations. In Bizhiki, their distinctive vocals and hand drumming fuse with electronic samples and beats to create something entrancing. The trio first collaborated at the now-defunct Eaux Claires festival back in 2015 and just released their debut album through Jagjaguwar.
Of course, I’m cheating a bit here. Bizhiki’s album release party actually takes place on Wednesday at The Parkway. That’s the big attraction, but they’ll also be doing a short performance and signing at Electric Fetus on Tuesday.
Bowling for Soup has been a staple of the punk world for a long, long time. In fact, they’re proving that on their current tour, celebrating the 20th anniversary of A Hangover You Don’t Deserve and the 30th anniversary of being a band.
Joachim will perform music from her most recent album, Ki moun ou ye . On the record, the Haitian composer and singer crafts a layered, moving experience that seamlessly slides between genres. Joachim is a unique voice, both literally and more broadly, and Berlin is a perfect place to hear the new album live.
There are too many great shows on Friday. Highlighting one means I’m ignoring Nigerian musician Seun Kuti coming to the Fine Line, the start of the excellent Palmfest lineup, Primus' show at the Ledge Amphitheater, and Jon Kimura Parker playing Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G.
Still, Extreme Noise is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The volunteer-run punk and metal-focused record shop is an absolute staple of the Twin Cities music world. It’ll start a series of shows over the next few months with Maul, Ossuary, Sunless, Kaldeket, and Visceral Reaction on Friday.
After you spend the afternoon with the Minnesota Orchestra at its annual Day of Music , it’s night two Palmfest at Palmer's. The fest pounds through 40 bands in three days with music starting at 11 a.m. each day. Tickets are $10 and only available at the door. On Saturday, you can catch The Arrivals, Wet Denim, Oyster World, Christy Costello, Norcos Y Horchata, Scrunchies, The Slow Death, Constant Insult, and more.
Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters are hitting Target Field. It’s one of the summer’s big, non-festival outdoor shows (along with Chance the Rapper, Metallica, and Green Day next month). You know what you’re getting. It’s the Foo Fighters.
A much different scene is taking place at the Turf Club, where the U.K.-based Lambrini Girls will play. The punk trio has been putting out damn good records with the "God's Country" single earlier this year and the fantastic You're Welcome EP last year.
