Injury Won’t Stop Carlos Correa From Performing His Duties as Twins Assistant GM

The 55-44 Minnesota Twins got at least one victory vs the MLB leading 63-37 Philadelphia Phillies, taking game one of three on Monday night, after a 1.5 hour rain delay. Bailey Ober was phenomenal and the bats, even without Carlos Correa and Royce Lewis, put up seven runs.

Correa, who is currently in a walking boot and on the injured list (plantar fasciitis), is still around the team. He acts as a secondary coach. He’s constantly working with all of the Twins’ youngsters, who trust him like a wise big brother.

But not only does Carlos play shortstop, bat in the middle of the lineup and act as an assistant coach, the 29-year-old All-Star reportedly plays a very important role in the front office, too.

Carlos Correa working as Minnesota Twins assistant GM

Correa talked to reporters gathered at Target Field today, including Declan Goff and Phil Mackey (SKOR North) . He told those media members that he works regularly with Twins decision makers this time of year. How so?

Apparently, he sends up trade targets, trade proposals and even acts as a sounding board for Falvey & Co to bounce ideas off of, especially during the offseason and leading up to the trade deadline. Don’t believe him?

Twins officials confirmed with Declan that Carlos Correa is “100% involved” in player personnel decisions and that his opinions are very much valued.

Goff : “Someone asked [Carlos Correa], ‘hey, what about trade deadline plans?’ Because they know Carlos Correa loves to to involve himself into the [Twins’] trade deadline plans and Correa volunteered information basically just straight-up on the record, saying ‘I’ve already said a lot of names already’. He said he wants to meet with Rocco…”

“I did ask some other people around the organization, I was like ‘how much is he really involved?’ Cuz [anyone] can say, ‘I got some influence here’, but does that hold any weight? And it sounds like, from people that I have talked to, Carlos Correa is 100% involved in [trade] ideas, in proposals, a lot of different things.”

Mackey : “[Correa] wasn’t disrespectful or anything but it’s pretty rare that you hear the star of a baseball team just flat out say on the record, ‘yes, I’m very much involved in sending [trade] ideas’ and ‘yes, we could use some pitching around here’.”

The Twins Show – SKOR North

Twins players know they need more starting pitching

Correa sends all of his ideas through Rocco Baldelli, as to not jump rank or go over his boss’ head. But from what Twins officials relayed to the guys at SKOR North, Falvey and the rest of the front office very much value the ideas and opinions their shortstop/assistant GM brings to the table.

Prior to his injury, Carlos Correa was enjoying one of the best season starts in his 10-year MLB career. The Twins’ captain has played 75 games , hitting .308 with an .896 OPS and 151 OPS+.

He’s launched 13 home runs, driven in 47 RBI and scored 51 runs of his own. In other words, he’s earned every penny of his $33 million contract, which I doubt includes any assistant GM services. That he probably does for free.
