The Minnesota Vikings secured the services of wide receiver Justin Jefferson and left tackle Christian Darrisaw in the same offseason.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Vikings have agreed to an extension with Darrisaw on a four-year contract worth $113 million, $77 million of that guaranteed.

The Vikings got Darrisaw's extension done before he started his fourth season and now have him locked down through the 2029 season. It also makes him the highest-paid offensive tackle in NFL history by $250k/year over Detroit Lions right tackle Penei Sewell, who signed a four-year, $112 million contract earlier this offseason.

It also signals a major shift in how the Vikings are operating. We can talk all we want about general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah using the Moneyball approach, but he will pay for players he believes to be one of the best in the NFL. He did so with Jefferson and tight end T.J. Hockenson.

Depending on how the signing bonus is structured, the Vikings won't incur a significant cap hit in 2024, but they could do so to make things easier in future seasons.
