Christian Darrisaw signs four-year extension with Vikings

Minnesota Vikings left tackle Christian Darrisaw just received a massive payday! The 25-year-old has agreed to a four-year extension worth up to $113 million, NFL Network insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport were among the first to report Tuesday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal will have $77 million guaranteed with a $43.7 million signing bonus.

Darrisaw still has two more years left on his rookie contract for roughly $20 million, according to Spotrac . His 2024 cap hit will be $4.3 million ($2.5 million base) with his fifth-year option at $16 million in 2025.

How that money will be dispersed has yet to be disclosed at the time of this publishing.

Darrisaw, who the Vikings drafted No. 23 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, has been one of the top left tackles in the sport upon entering the league. Instead of blocking for Kirk Cousins , he will now be tasked with protecting Sam Darnold ‘s blindside and, eventually, JJ McCarthy’s.

Minnesota Vikings 2024 Training Camp Preview

Minnesota not paying a quarterback hand over fist–like it was for Cousins–has allowed it to be financially flexible, where it can allocate its resources in myriad ways. They signed Justin Jefferson to a massive extension in April while signing Andrew Van Ginkel , Jonathan Greenard and Blake Cashman in free agency, upgrading its defense.

Investing in the offensive line, however, is a very important one. Brian O’Neill is under contract through 2026 and Darrisaw will now be through 2029. Minnesota has had issues on the interior line, but it could be worse.

Who knows whether or not they will be more competitive after an injury-riddled 2023 season behind center, but it’s been Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s top offseason yet. They project to have nearly $50 million in cap space in 2025 (seventh-most) and $113 million in 2026 (15th), according to Over The Cap. We won’t know how that will be situated until that time rolls around, but what we do know is they have vehicles to add even more talent around their new gunslinger over the next few offseasons, which is crucial.
