The Minnesota Vikings and offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw agreed to a four-year contract extension worth up to $113 million on the eve of training camp, according to multiple reports.

Minnesota Vikings offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw will receive $77 million guaranteed, $43.7 million guaranteed at signing

Darrisaw, who turned 25 last month, will receive $77 million guaranteed, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Darrisaw’s contract extension includes $43.7 million guaranteed at signing.

Minnesota selected Darrisaw 23rd overall in the 2021 NFL draft out of Virginia Tech. He has appeared in 41 games and has made 39 starts. The 6-foot-5, 315-pounder started 10 games during his rookie season.

Last season, the tackle started all 15 games he appeared in during the 2023 season, marking a single-season career high in starts. However, Darrisaw missed five games in 2021, three in 2022, and two in 2023.

According to Pro Football Focus, Darrisaw recorded the third-highest pass block grade (85.3) among all offensive linemen who played at least 50 percent of offensive snaps during the 2023 season.

Although he has yet to make a Pro Bowl or All-Pro team, coach Kevin O’Connell has praised him in the past. Darrisaw concluded the 2022 season as the second-highest graded tackle, trailing only 49ers tackle Trent Williams.

Darrisaw’s $28.3 million annual salary pushes him ahead of Detroit Lions’ Penei Sewell as the highest-paid tackle in the NFL

Per Spotrac, Darrisaw’s $28.3 million annual salary propels him just ahead of the Detroit Lions’ Penei Sewell ($28 million) as the highest-paid tackle in the NFL.

“Excellent combination of strength, athleticism and well-rounded production in both phases. The body control stands out,” one personnel director told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler last week.

Furthermore, Darrisaw had two years remaining on his rookie deal and is now signed through the 2029 season. The agreement was finalized on the day Vikings veterans reported to training camp.

This deal was also finalized one day before their first practice and one month after the team signed receiver Justin Jefferson to a four-year, $140 million contract extension.

Since the end of last season, the Vikings have moved on from quarterback Kirk Cousins, drafted rookie J.J. McCarthy, and signed a total of 14 unrestricted free agents.

That includes veteran quarterback Sam Darnold. The Vikings also re-signed eight of their own players. Jefferson’s deal may have influenced the decision to strike a deal with Darrisaw now rather than later.

Darrisaw would’ve been playing on his club option in 2025.
