Blue-green algae health advisory issued for Lake Nokomis beach

A health advisory was issued for Lake Nokomis Main Beach by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) on Wednesday after officials found high levels of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria).

MPRB’s water quality monitoring in Lake Nokomis found that levels of microcystin – a toxin produced by blue-green algae – exceeded state guidelines.

Samples from other MPRB-run beaches have acceptable results for cyanobacteria, however four beaches continue to remain closed due to high levels of E. coli bacteria.
