A man has pleaded guilty to using explosives to damage a Minneapolis hair salon in 2022.

Michael Allen Francisco, 59, of Minneapolis, pleaded guilty to one count of malicious use of explosive materials to damage and destroy a property in U.S. District Court on Tuesday.

In the early morning hours of Nov. 20, 2022, Francisco was seen on surveillance footage detonating a handmade explosive device at by the window of Studio 411, a salon in the Bryn Mawr neighborhood.

The makeshift bomb exploded, causing both exterior and interior damage. He then fled the area in a vehicle, according to court documents.

Almost a year later on Nov. 6 of 2023, Francisco was captured on video throwing a landscaping rock through a window of the same salon, smashing it. He again fled the scene.

Investigators were later able to collect DNA and other evidence to connect Francisco to the incident. Officials also found the jacket Francisco was wearing during the second incident while executing a search warrant at his home in March. Multiple explosive components, a revolver and methamphetamine were also recovered.

Court records do not reveal why Francisco chose to target that particular salon.
