A former Tennessee Vols defender "looks like" he could earn a starting role this fall in the NFL.

Former Vols defensive back Theo Jackson has been battling for a starting safety job with the Minnesota Vikings this summer and he's made a strong impression.

Jackson, sixth round selection by the Tennessee Titans in the 2022 NFL Draft, landed with the Vikings midway though the 2022 season after he was signed off the Titans' practice squad.

A to Z Spots' Tyler Forness spent some time at Vikings training camp this week and he came away impressed by the former Vol, suggesting that Jackson "looks like he should be a starter".

From A to Z Sports' Tyler Forness : Can the Vikings start four safeties because Jackson looks like he should be a starter. He has flown all around practice, including two near interceptions on Wednesday. The Vikings aren't going to start him with Harrison Smith, Camryn Bynum and Josh Metellus in the starting lineup, but it's becoming clear that Jackson is a massive luxury for the Vikings.

As Forness noted, it's unlikely that Jackson begins the season as a starter for the Vikings due to the players in front of him on the depth chart. But Jackson will almost certainly be a key player for Minnesota this fall. Depth is needed to get through the grind of a long NFL season. It's inevitable that Jackson will be called on to play important snaps for the Vikings in 2024.

Jackson has played in 26 games over the last two seasons, totaling 30 tackles and one interception while playing in a backup role.
