Back to the 50's Street Rod Weekend Event Celebrates 50 years in Minnesota

This year marks the 50th year of the Street Rod Association's Back to the 50's Weekend in Minnesota and its expected to be bigger and better than ever.

The golden anniversary of the event will feature more than 10,000 street rods, customs, classics and restored vehicles, but exhibitor Jim Davis says more importantly it brings friends together through their shared love of cars.

"We've got people from California, Québec Canada, Kentucky, their from all over the country and we're Facebook friends I guess, car show friends," says Davis, "we just meet up and have a good time."

Jim and his friend Keith say owning rarer models of their vehicles gets them more attention at shows & motivates them to keep traveling around the country.

"Like this Cadillac, this is a special car there's not many of these old Cadillac's left," Davis says, " Same with this Packard there's not many of these left, so they're special."

"Its more fun driving it," Keith says," than it is letting it sit there in the garage."

Minnesota Street Rod Association board member Dale Sohlstrom says this year.. some extra special vehicles are set to join the showcase.

" You will see cars that you won't see anywhere else," Sohlstrom says," some very very rare cars, and some that aren't so rare but, the thing with street rods is that you can build them to your taste, so there's all kinds."
