U.S. News ranks Minnesota's top 10 hospitals in 2024

U.S. News and World Report recently released its annual Best Hospitals ranking, exploring the nation's best medical centers on a national, statewide and regional level.

Over 4,300 hospitals were evaluated for this year's report, which found Mayo Clinic in Rochester among only nine hospitals nationwide to rate high performing in all 20 procedures and conditions.

This year's Best Hospitals Honor Roll named Mayo Clinic among the 20 "best of the best" hospitals in the United States.

The hospital ranked at or near the very top of the national rankings in many specialties , including No. 1 in diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, and pulmonary care and lung surgery.

Mayo Clinic also ranked second in the nation in orthopedics and neurology and neurosurgery and third in the nation in obstetrics and gynecology, cancer, and cardiology and heart & vascular surgery.

The medical center's geriatrics and ear, nose and throat specialties ranked fourth in the nation.

Twin Cities rankings

Allina Health's Abbott Northwestern Hospital took the top spot for hospital rankings in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

The Minneapolis hospital earned a "high performing" recognition in five adult specialties and 16 procedures and conditions, and one national ranking for rehabilitation, which ranked 47th.

For the regional Twin Cities ranking, M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis landed second.

Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids and United Hospital in St. Paul, both operated by Allina Health, tied for third place and M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina rounded out the top five.
