Morning Joe Guest Calls Tim Walz a ‘PSA for White Folks’: ‘He’s Going to Teach Lots of People’

The Ink publisher Anand Giridharadas argued on Wednesday that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) is a perfect fit as a running mate for Vice President Kamala Harris because he’s a “PSA for White folks.”

Giridharadas joined Morning Joe on Wednesday following Harris and Walz holding a Pennsylvania rally after Walz was announced as the vice president’s running mate. According to Giridharadas, Democrats have finally joined the “vibes” war against Republicans, a party Giridharadas called an “authoritarian movement.”

“They make people feel things. They make people emotional. They get the blood up,” the political analyst said about Republicans. “And Democrats for too long have been running against authoritarianism with wonkiness, with policy, with material things, with bridges and roads, all very worthy things, but not competing on the level of getting the blood up.”

In a political field so influenced by culture arguments about who is “weird,” Giridharadas argued, Walz’s “biggest significance” is being an old White man who isn’t aligned with Donald Trump’s MAGA movement.

“The biggest significance of this man is that he is an older White man in a moment in which the far right is trying to convince people that the future is treacherous for them, trying to convince men that the future is treacherous for them, and here is a older White man, a coach, a soldier who is very hard to dismiss,” he said.

Giridharadas insisted Walz will “teach lots of people,” including that there is “joy in having your boss be a Black woman.”

“There is joy in the future. There is joy in having your boss be a Black woman. There is joy in what is coming, and I think he is going to teach lots of people in addition to whatever role he plays in the election and in the White House,” he said. “He’s going to teach lots of people through his role in the culture.”

In a post to X , Giridharadas furthered his argument by labeling Walz a “PSA for White folks.”

“[Walz] is a PSA for white folks, older folks, men, rural dwellers, and others: You don’t need to be afraid of the future,” he wrote.
