Vikings Legend Adrian Peterson Forced to Fork Over Millions in Assets to Pay Off Massive Debt

Minnesota Vikings legend Adrian Peterson is in serious financial trouble and soon could be forced to fork over much of his prized assets to pay off an insane amount of debut.

Peterson is not just one of the greatest running backs of his era, but one of the best to ever take handoffs out of the backfield. During his legendary 15-year career the seventh overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft earned over $103 million in earnings. Yet, like many greats before him, it seems he has blown much of his hard-earned cash.

On Tuesday, USA Today was able to obtain court documents from a Houston court demanding the Vikings icon turn over some of his most valuable assets to pay off $12.5 million in debt.

Robert Berleth is the court-appointed receiver. He will visit the former NFL star’s home to seize his valuables. The judge overseeing the case has also assigned constables to accompany Berleth to make sure the job gets done.

“The order is the latest in a long legal battle to get Peterson to pay back a $5.2 million loan he took out from a Pennsylvania lending company in 2016 that was supposed to pay back other lenders,” according to the court records USA Today obtained. “That debt since has led to a $8.3 million judgment against him in 2021, plus $15,000 in attorney’s fees with 9% per annum on all amounts. The approximate collection total is $12.5 million, Berleth stated in a February court filing.”

The $5.2 million loan came during Adrian Peterson’s final season with the Vikings. He was eligible for a $17 million team option the following year. However, after an injury-riddled season, the option was not picked up. And he took his talents to New Orleans for two years, and $7 million.

The Vikings legend was a seven-time Pro Bowler and earned All-Pro honors in four of those years. He is by far the franchise leader in NFL stats for rushing yards (11,747) and touchdowns (97). His final season in the league was in 2021.
