Local community theater group, AGLOW Theater is bringing not one but two beloved classics to the stage later this month in the Little Theater at Hopkins High School in Minnetonka. The fairy tale “Little Red Riding Hood” shows at 3 p.m. on July 18-21 and is for all ages. In addition, “12 Angry Jurors,” — based on the award-winning film “12 Angry Men” by Reginald Rose — shows at 7 p.m. on July 18-21. Recommended for ages 12 and up, this stage version by Sherman L. Sergel is a gritty, honest story about justice and the human spirit.

Local playwright Andrea Merboth of Chanhassen wrote the script for the play “Little Red Riding Hood,” and says it is a bright retelling, full of wisdom and hope. Merboth is also directing “12 Angry Jurors” and says the story really speaks to the cancel culture and personal prejudices.

“We are judging people too quickly and too harshly,” Merboth says, adding that “12 Angry Jurors” encourages audiences to listen better when others are struggling and, in turn, to respectfully ask others to listen to them when they struggle themselves.

These colorful, fast-paced productions are presented by AGLOW Theater, a non-profit theater group for homeschool teens in the southwest metro. Alive with fresh talent, AGLOW is in its 14th season and continues to produce family-friendly plays that reveal truth in delightful, profound, and creative ways.
