Kyle Okposo is bringing the Stanley Cup to Minnesota on Friday

Lord Stanley's Cup will be in Minnesota on Friday.

St. Paul native Kyle Okposo, who just won his first Stanley Cup in his 17th NHL season, is bringing it home with him for the day. Fans are invited to head to Pagel Activity Center in Minnetonka from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday to see Okposo and the Cup and take pictures.

Okposo had to wait a while to win his first NHL championship with the Florida Panthers, who took down the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 last month after squandering a 3-0 series lead. 18 years ago, he was the seventh overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft after a big season with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL. Okposo then played one season at the University of Minnesota before signing a contract with the New York Islanders and making his NHL debut in 2008.

Okposo spent the first nine years of his career with the Islanders, posting a career-best 69 points in 71 games in the 2013-14 season. He then spent the next seven seasons with the Buffalo Sabres. This March, he was traded to the Panthers, appearing in 17 games with two assists during their postseason run. The 36-year-old was the third player on the team to hoist the cup after Florida's Game 7 victory.

One can only guess where else in Minnesota Okposo will take the Cup on Friday. If you want to see it with your own eyes, go to Pagel in the morning and expect a decent crowd.
