Mound Westonka High School Student Senate worked diligently to pull off another incredible prom for senior and junior students on May 4. “Down on the Bayou” was the theme, complete with decorations and backdrops that created a New Orleans vibe throughout the event.

“The junior cabinet of the Student Senate spent months planning every detail - from the venue to the theme, dinner, decorations, and grand march - they truly thought of it all!” said advisors Jamie Harms and Dale Kimball. “It is always so fun to see their hard work come to fruition and to see how proud they are of their work. We are proud to be their advisors.”

The night started with a grand march in the MWHS gymnasium. Students walked out on a stage, through a tunnel, and over a bridge and were introduced to a delighted audience. The grand march was followed by the prom coronation.

Seniors Stella Johnson and Jack Hanson were chosen by the senior and junior classes as the two senior representatives on the prom court. Other members of the court included seniors Max Anderson, Charlie Paul, Axel Anderson, Colter Applegate, Averie Zealley, Ingrid Wulf, Gabriella Larsen, Sage Finck, Addison Nash and Jose Barajas.

The evening continued at the Lafayette Club, complete with a social hour, buffet, desserts, beverages, and capped off with the prom dance. Ticket sales were phenomenal, as 348 students attended prom this year.

“The 2024 prom was one of the best I remember,” said Assistant Principal Marty Fischer. “The weather was great, it was incredibly well-attended, and many students shared with me that they had a really fun time!”

“Seeing students get all dressed up having fun with their peers is truly heartwarming and makes for a very special night,” Fischer added. “I can’t say thanks enough to our Student Senate for their work to make this night happen!”
