MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — The skies will be lighting up the next couple of nights.

While fireworks are not allowed in Minot, they are allowed outside city limits.

If you do set some off within the city, you are risking getting a citation, and your fireworks will be taken as evidence.

According to city officials, not having all of the flashes and bangs within town limits will help keep neighbors’ pets stress-free.

But if you are going to head out of town to set some off, here are some safety tips.

Fourth of July fireworks safety for Minot

Do not let kids ignite the fireworks, follow the instructions, and make sure you don’t point them at anyone.

And be aware of those that may seem like duds.

“By all means stay away from those fireworks that don’t go off for a certain amount of time because they might have a slower burning fuse with humidity and as you go out there to grab it that firework could go off and that is where we see issues,” said Stuart Hammer, the fire inspector for the Minot Fire Department.

If a firework doesn’t go off, douse it with water and leave it alone.

Hammer reminds everyone to clean up their messes, so no debris is littering the streets.
