MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — It’s America’s 248th birthday and people were celebrating America’s freedom, dressed in their red, white, and blue.

As the Minot Parks District hosted its Fourth of July festival in Oak Park, a different spot this year.

“Well, there is a lot of construction going on in Roosevelt Park right now. You have the flood diversion plan going through there. It is going through a lot of changes, a lot of the trees are cut down and there is a lot of that stuff happening. So we decided this was the year to make the switch to it,” said Juan Vadell, the event coordinator for Minot Parks District.

Donald Hoffart and Viola Schel say the festival being in a new location didn’t make a difference to them they love the music.

“Ya, we like to dance so the music for us, and seeing friends we don’t see other parts of the year, they all come to gather,” said festival goers Donald Hoffart and Viola Schel.

Music was not the only thing going on to enjoy, there were also games like cornhole, kan-jam, ladder ball, and Jenga.

For kids, there were bounce houses and a face-painting booth.

“We have some really specific stuff like cotton candy. That has been a hit I mean their line has been absolutely bonkers all day and their cotton candy looks great,” said Vadell.

The Magic City Discovery Center was also on hand, holding some games and even a photo booth, while the Minot Hot Tots were giving away free hats with a baseball toss.

Lauren Hitchcock and her family were looking forward to the event because it was their first time.

They even have a special message for those who make this day all possible.

“We just appreciate our freedom thanks to all the military members that have served and are serving, which my husband is one of them,” said Hitchcock.

Musical guests performing live out there today were the Badlands Express and Tin Star.
