MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — Reactions from Saturday’s attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump are reaching all over the country, including right here in North Dakota.

“I was actually shocked that it happened but I’m sure glad that he turned his head at the right time. He’s really lucky,” said Minot resident, Clint Wolf. “And I’m positive Trump is going to get elected.”

According to CBS News, Trump was grazed by a bullet which hit him in the right ear, at his rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

We now know the suspected shooter, Thomas Crooks, was shot and killed by Secret Service Agents. CBS also reports that two other men who were at the rally, are in critical condition.

It’s also said that Trump underwent a precautionary CT scan and is doing fine.

He is in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention, where he is expected to speak sometime during the four-day convention.

Some locals said the shooting doesn’t come as a shock to them, while others said they are just thankful he’s okay.

“I’m kind of a little numb,” said Minot resident, Jessica Hruby. “I thought I would have more of a reaction. But with everything going on I feel like we have been flooded constantly with negativity going on, that sort of thing. The timing, not good. Because it’s just going to, I guess, ramp up the conspiracy theories on both sides of the table.”

Hruby also said this will not impact her vote.

“For me, my vote was already made up. I already have strong opinions about who each candidate is, what each administration is. So, it doesn’t change it for me. For undecided voters, I don’t know,” Hruby continued.

Just hours after the shooting, several of our state officials condemned the attack, including Governor Doug Burgum. Burgum is currently in Milwaukee, where he is scheduled to speak at the RNC this week.

Sen. John Hoeven traveled to Minot on Monday, and told KX News, that we need to come together as a country to reject violence and situations like this.

“There’s no place for violence in our country,” said Sen. Hoeven. “We are all very relieved that the former President is okay and of course, we grieve the loss of another individual who was killed in this terrible attack. And, we need to come together as a country and recognize that we want debate, open debate, but at the same time there is no place for violence.”

According to CBS News, the Secret Service director says they are adding additional security to the former President’s detail for the convention.
