MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — Many farmers who make a living in North Dakota are part of a cooperative.

Co-ops have helped farmers reduce the everyday cost of many tools and equipment. They can also be a resource for farmers to find help when they need it.

Close to Minot, that includes the Ward County Farmers Union.

While inflation has driven up the cost of groceries for families, it’s also meant higher prices for farmers, including buying fertilizer.

Farmers urge people that co-ops, unlike many food producers, put North Dakota first.

“When you shop at somebody else or another place sometimes those dollars leave the state but a co-op stays in North Dakota, invests in North Dakota, and we are here for the long haul,” said Ben Vig, a North Dakota farmer

Next Monday, the Ward County Farmers Union is hosting their ‘Fun on the Farm’ day, open to kids who are between four and nine years old.

It’s happening at Watne Farms in Velva, starting at 5:30 p.m.
