Big League Dreams closes after nearly 20 years in Redding. Future of facility is uncertain
Big League Dreams abruptly closed Wednesday night, ending a nearly two-decade-long run that in recent years was plagued by problems with maintenance and poor field conditions. The city of Redding announced the closure Thursday afternoon in a news release that said there will be a special meeting of the City Council at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. “The meeting will provide an opportunity for public comment and discussions on the future of the facility,” the news release said. ...

Local clubs to co-host Rumble in the Redwoods this weekend
By Ray Hamill — Three local youth baseball clubs will join forces this weekend to host a tournament here on the North Coast. The Six Rivers Kings, the Northern Humboldt Steelheads and the Lost Coast Legends are all well used to traveling hundreds of miles to play in tournaments several times a year, but they won’t have to travel very far this week.

The Logger Bar is the spot for some country-tinged, folky rock music as Portland’s Cruise Control coasts into town for an evening of free music starting at 9 p.m. I listened to some of the group’s tunes online, and found them to be some sweet, light-hearted stuff. EUREKA, Calif. — Leaders with the Klamath River Renewal Corporation, RES, the Yurok and Karuk Tribes say the project is ahead of schedule, with parts of the John C. Boyle and Copco No. 1 Dams likely to be broken next week. They say the Copper Dam at Iron Gate is set for demolition in the last week of August.
