Reed City football looks to get over the hump as the 2024 season approaches

REED CITY - The Reed City Coyotes have been to the state semifinals in back-to-back seasons but have fallen both years, and this year they are looking to change that. The Coyotes have a lot of their offensive and defensive linemen returning for the upcoming season but have also lost a number of the skill position players. Head Coach Scott Shankel is preparing his group to hopefully be playing at Ford Field this fall.

“You know, we got to continue to earn everything, so our kids know that they got to work for it. They’ve had a great summer. We’ve had a great first week. So very pleased with where we’re at right now. And they want to keep their tradition rolling so they know how big that is,” said Shankel.

Senior offensive and defensive lineman Wyatt Spalo is determined to get to that state championship game.

“I’m thrilled. Much like the rest of the guys on this team, we’re all super excited to get this season up and going. Our biggest goal is to make it the next step further and make it further than a semifinal this year,” said Spalo.

Reed City will open their season against the reigning state champion Kingsley Stags.
