Best ramen in Anaheim! Shin Sen Gumi Robata & Yakitori

    2021-02-14

I was super estatic to stumble across across Shin Sen Gumi in Anaheim after my mom got her covid vaccine shot in Disneyland. Not knowing where to get lunch, I just yelped a nearby brunch spot. That original spot wasn't too promising so we walked over to the next block and found this street lined with Japanese ramen and bakery! We were happy to see table outside where you can do outdoor dining. The food is served in a take out container but on a tray. The temperature was aroun 65 degrees but once the sun came out, it was getting quite warm. There is no shade since the tables are situated right outside the restaurant.

Once you walk in, they will hand you a paper menu. I ordered the Spicy Tonkatsu ramen, Chicken thigh yakitori and Pork cutlet curry. I asked for water but they were all bottled and no complimentary waters were available. It's one inconvenient thing about covid that you'll have to deal with. The yakitor is grilled right outside the restaurant where you'll be able to watch and film being made.

They have this policy where you have to order 4 skewers at a time. You won't be able to get 1 of each different ones. I thought that was werid considering it shouldn't make a big difference as long as you're ordering 4 skewers. That was the downside of ordering the yakitori since you'll be stuck with 4 of the same one. I wanted to get the beef tongue, pork belly, sausage and chicken thigh but I ended up getting just the chicken thigh.

Just like the SGV location, the skewers were amazing! Same great flavor and cooked to perfection! I tried making this at home but just didn't turn out the same. Maybe it the brining and the special sauce? Definitely order the chicken thighs!

This bowl of spicy tonkatsu ramen was the same as other locations. I think the portion size is smaller but the noodles were cooked just right and the broth was on point! This is my go to ramen that I can eat almost every day! So delicious and flavorful. The pork charsu is super tender and tasty. I just wish this place is located closer to home.

For the Pork Cutlet, they charge you anywhere from $.10 to couple dollars depending on the spice level. It goes from 1-10 and I chose #2. It had the right amount of spicy taste but wasn't sure why they would charge 30 cents extra. Regardless, this is very delicious and I'd come back to dine with my dogs next time. So many people brought their dogs and spent a relaxing afternoon eating and people watching. If you feel stuffy and need to get a way from the house, check out this area where you'd find some great eats with plenty of outdoor seating!

writer says it's in Anaheim, but it's not. On Brookhurst and Ellis Ave in Fountain Valley. unless there's more than one OC location, the writer should state that.
