On Monday , Mission police said they received calls regarding a shooting at approximately 8:37 p.m. at a residence, located at the 2800 block of Dinastia Dorado St.

    It was Ortiz’s birthday.

At the scene, officers found a man, identified as 27-year-old Yorman Jovani Reta, on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and to the left side of his body. According to police, the victim died as a result of his injuries at the scene. He was shot nine times.

Reta was at his girlfriend’s house when Ortiz arrived at the residence to leave her a slice of his birthday cake, police say.

“Ortiz who is a longtime friend of (Reta’s) girlfriend engaged in a verbal altercation with the victim and subsequently pulled out a 9 millimeter Glock 26 and shot and killed the victim,” police said at a news conference.

Police say Ortiz later confessed to the crime.
