MISSION, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — A teenager accused of causing an 18-wheeler to crash into a house last month has turned himself in, police say.

The driver of the Fiat, identified as 18-year-old Jose Osvaldo Sanchez, was charged with criminal negligent homicide, a state jail felony.

At a news conference, authorities detailed that Sanchez had crashed into the trailer, causing it to veer off the roadway and crash into the home.

Sanchez turned himself in on Monday, following his release from the hospital, and was arraigned at 11:35 a.m. on Tuesday.

His bond was set at $50,000.

    Background

At 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, authorities responded to a collision on the 2600 block of W. Expressway 83, Eastbound, near Jr.’s Tires and Wheels.

At the scene, police said a red Fiat and an unoccupied white GMC were hit during the collision. The 19-year-old driver of the Fiat was in stable condition and taken to the hospital.

Video from the neighboring business showed the 18-wheeler crossing to the frontage road, before entering a parking lot and ultimately crashing into the home.

Art Flores, with the Mission Police Department, said, when the 18-wheeler crashed into the home, no one was at the property.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was identified as 51-year-old Anastacio Martinez Jr. He was pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy has been ordered.

Crews were still at the scene in the early hours of Sunday morning, clearing the scene, authorities said.

Jorge Rodriguez, Public Information Officer with the Mission Police Department said when the truck was removed from the site, the house collapsed.

The arraignment will be live-streamed in this story.
