First Degree Murder Charge After Fatal Shooting in Hattiesburg

An arrest has been made related to a recent fatal shooting in Hattiesburg, according to a press release from the Hattiesburg Police Department.

In the early morning hours on Sunday, August 4, 2024 Hattiesburg Police responded to the 600 block of Eastside Avenue to investigate reports of a shooting.

When the HPD officers arrived, they discovered that 31-year-old Markaz Moye, of Hattiesburg, had suffered an apparent gunshot wound. First responders came to the aid of Moye and they were transportd to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Upon further investigation, Hattiesburg Police arrested Gary Christopher Rogers, 36, of Hattiesburg, and charged him with one (1) count of First Degree Murder and Tampering with Physical Evidence in connection to the fatal shooting.

Rogers has been booked into Forrest County Jail.
