A tense standoff ended with the arrest of a 24-year-old man in Richland on Tuesday morning, following an attempted felony warrant service by Rankin County deputies.

According to Investigator Tyler Burnell with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were attempting to serve a warrant for cyberstalking on James Martin of Brandon at a residence on Sundance Circle around 10:00 a.m. Martin allegedly refused to follow verbal commands and barricaded himself inside the home, threatening to use firearms he had inside.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, along with the Richland Police Department Special Response Team and crisis negotiators, were dispatched to the scene to handle the situation.

Efforts to contact Martin by phone continued for approximately an hour. Just before 11:00 a.m., Martin surrendered to the authorities without further incident and was taken into custody. He was subsequently transported to the Rankin County Jail.

Authorities have indicated that Martin could face additional charges related to the standoff.

    Stay tuned for further updates.
