Hattiesburg Police Department Seeks Information in Hit and Run

The public is being asked for help in an ongoing investigation by the Hattiesburg Police Department.

The incident, a fatal hit-and-run, occured on May 18, 2023 at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Edwards Street at Barkley Road. Officers discovered an unresponsive black man in the road, later identified as William Chambliss. Chambliss, 63, of Hattiesburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a press release from Hattiesburg Police Department, the officers investigated and discovered that the collision took place at Barkley Street in the northbound lane of Edward Street. A witness reported seeing a white Toyota Camry sped away after seeing Chambliss in the road.
