Tropical Storm Francine is approaching, which means that boat owners will need to make plans to move or shelter their boats before the storm arrives.

Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) has advised boat owners to take action by 6 p.m. on the evening of September 10, 2024.

MDOT has advised that any boats that will need to shelter on the back bay or move inland by using the Mississippi Gulf Coast drawbridges should do so by 6 p.m., as the effects of Francine will begin this evening. Tropical storm force winds are anticipated, and MDOT will lock down and close the drawbridges to marine traffic at 6 p.m. to prepare for the winds. The drawbridges will not be raised again until after Tropical Storm Francine has passed.

More information on Tropical Storm Francine and safety precautions will be given as it becomes available. Stay updated on live travel news by downloading the MDOT Traffic App, visiting the MDOT website, or following @MississippiDot on Facebook and X.
