On Monday, September 23, 2024, the United States Department of Education released its list of 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools. Among the 356 schools named across the nation, four were Mississippi public schools.

According to a press release from Mississippi Department of Education, "This prestigious recognition highlights schools that excel in academic performance or make significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups."

"The National Blue Ribbon Schools Award is a testament to the exceptional achievements of students and educators at each of these schools," stated U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. "The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are raising the bar for our nation's students, serving as models for effective teaching and intentional collaboration in their schools and communities."

The four Mississippi Schools recognized with the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award were Magnolia Park Elementary School, Mannsdale Upper Elementary School, Ripley High School, and Stone Elementary School.

Magnolia Park Elementary, of Ocean Springs School District, and Mannsdale Upper Elementary, of Madison County School District, were recognized in the category of Exemplary High Performing Schools.

Ripley High School, of South Tippah School District, and Stone Elementary School, of Stone County School District, were recognized in the category of Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools.

All schools are recognized based on student performance data. This data includes results of assessments, student subgroup performance, and graduation rates. When a school is nominated, the administration submits an extensive application that details the school's culture, assessments, curriculum, instructional practices, professional development, family, leadership, and community involvement. Up to 420 schools may be nominated each year.
