According to a press release from the Mississippi Department of Revenue, agents with the Department of Revenue and Officers with the McComb Police Department served Smothers with her indictment and taken into custody at the Pike County Jail, where she is currently awaiting bond.

Smothers, as with all defendants, is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The Mississippi Department of Revenue wants to reassure Mississippians that residents who follow the laws can be sure that Agents will investigate and prepare cases against individuals who knowingly and willfully defraud the state of money.
