    Inmate Who Escaped Custody Earlier This Month Found Dead in MDOC Custody

    An inmate who briefly escaped from custody on September 11th, 2024, has been found deceased while in Mississippi Department of Corrections custody.

    Ryan Burks, age 39, has been confirmed as deceased by a spokesperson by Mississippi Department of Corrections.

    At this time, the MDOC spokesperson did not offer any details about the circumstances surrounding Burks's death, including how or where it occured. Any questions concerning the details of his passing are currently being directed to the Mississippi Medical Examiner.

    Earlier in September, Burks escaped from Carroll County's facility and was apprehended in Oxford and brought back into custody, along with a kitchen manager from the prison.

    In 2006, Burks had been sentenced to 30 years for a crime committed during his teenage years in Tippah County.

    More information will be released as it becomes available.

    Sadly this doesn’t even surprise me anymore! Something like this is expected when it comes to the Mississippi prison system. There needs to be some accountability in the system but we won’t ever see it. Guards allow prisoners to murder other prisoners so they can claim they don’t have blood on their hands. When the day comes they have to answer for their sins I’m betting the guards loved ones gonna be looking down saying RIP… they won’t get much peace where they are going!

    They tortured and then killed him. So sad. They need to put a stop to these uncivilized acts of violence against people.
