Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has updated its report regarding the counties across the state that are under burn bans.

Due to the dry conditions and lack of rainfall over the last weeks, thirteen counties are currently under a burn ban. All the counties that are under a ban are in the southern half of the state, according to an updated social media post from Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

According to the Mississippi Forest Commission, a burn ban means that anything with an open flame that produces an ember is not allowed.

The counties currently under a burn ban include Adams, Wilkinson, Franklin, Amite, Pike, Walthall, Lawrence, Jefferson Davis, Copiah, Simpson, Wayne, Green, and George.

The bans against open flames for the counties listed will not expire until sometime in November. The expiration dates for each county are different and are listed on the Mississippi Forestry Commission website.
