Freshman kicker hit program-record 52-yard field goal in Week 1

Sept. 3, 2024 – After a busy night in Week 1, Northwest freshman kicker/punter Hayden Wolfe has earned the MACCC Special Teams Player of the Week award, the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Wolfe, a native of Clinton, went 2-for-2 in his first collegiate field goal attempts, converting a 27-yard attempt in the first quarter and a 52-yarder in the fourth quarter. His 52-yard field goal set a new record for longest made field goal by a Northwest kicker.

Additionally, Wolfe punted five times for 231 yards, pinning four inside the 20-yard line, while also having two punts go for 50-plus yards. One of those punts was a 60-yard attempt. He also kicked off three times for 171 yards and a touchback.

Wolfe is the first Ranger to earn Special Teams Player of the Week honors from the MACCC since September 19, 2023, when Jackson Uselton made four of his five field goal attempts in a 19-3 victory against Hinds in Week 2 of the 2023 season.

No. 7 Northwest dropped a close 24-23 contest to Pearl River in the season-opener. The Rangers will look to bounce back on Thursday, September 5 at East Central. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 P.M. from Decatur.
