Entergy Mississippi’s plan to reduce energy rates was approved by the Mississippi Public Service Commission last week.

The new rate plan will take effect during the July billing cycle, when high summer temperatures will cause customers to increase their energy usage.

With the approval, the typical residential customer using 1,000 kWh per month will see a bill decrease of $2.07 beginning in July.

“We work hard to safely provide quality and reliable electricity to all our customers,” Haley Fisackerly, Entergy Mississippi president and CEO, said. “As our customers face rising costs on groceries and other bills, we’re doing what we can to help keep their energy bills stable. We hope this savings will help customers feel some relief from the heat and in their wallets at a time when they need it most.”

Entergy Mississippi’s residential rates continue to be among the lowest in the nation. In nearly two decades, Entergy Mississippi’s residential rates have increased by 44 percent; while according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the cost of bread and eggs have risen by 88 percent and 130 percent, respectively.

Entergy Mississippi provides electricity to approximately 459,000 customers in 45 counties across the state. Entergy Mississippi is a subsidiary of Entergy Corporation, which provides power for 3 million customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
