Woman shot and killed at apartment in Westchase area, Houston police say
A woman is dead after a shooting at an apartment in the Westchase area, according to police.Houston police responded to a shooting at an apartment complex in the 10000 block of Westpark Drive near S. Gessner Road around 8 p.m. Tuesday.At the scene, officers found a 25-year-old woman dead with gunshot wounds.Investigators believe a man knocked on the woman's door, and when she answered, he forced his way inside and a fight began. It all ended when the woman was shot and killed.No weapon was found and the suspect is on the run, according to HPD.Police said there were no witnesses, though neighbors did call police when they heard the man and woman fighting. Harris County Fourth of July 'no refusal' DWI initiative announced
HOUSTON - Harris County officials are cracking down on impaired driving over the Fourth of July holiday by conducting "no refusal" enforcement. There will be extra patrols on the streets as well as waterways, and dozens of agencies will be out working alongside the Harris County District Attorney’s office to obtain blood warrants much faster for those suspected of driving drunk.

Firework safety for the 4th of July: What you need to know before you pop
HOUSTON (KIAH)– As you prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday with fireworks, keep in mind that safety should be top of mind to prevent serious injuries. Last week kicked off the first week of fireworks sales and Top Dog Fireworks wants to ensure that Houstonians stay safe and understand where it’s legal to pop. All local cities ban shooting fireworks in their boundaries. Fireworks can’t be shot within 600 feet of a church, hospital, day care center, school or within 100 feet of a place where flammable liquids or fireworks are around. Never throw fireworks out from a vehicle.

HOUSTON — Hot weather can feel like a nuisance but it can have an extreme effect on your body. When the body gets above its usual temperature -- around 98.6 degrees -- it takes a series of actions trying to cool us off. Blood starts pumping, blood vessels dilate, and tiny capillaries go to work trying to pull the heat to our skin’s surface. The sweat glands also kick into gear, pushing liquid that includes salt onto our skin. When that liquid, better known as sweat, evaporates it also helps to cool us off.
