Democratic Rep. Cori Bush lost her bid to return to Congress as the representative for Missouri’s first district.

A member of the progressive Squad, Bush was reported to be the subject of a federal criminal investigation in January. In recent months, she has also drawn the ire of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, which has spent $8 million to back her Democratic primary challenger, Wesley Bell , a former prosecutor.

Decision Desk HQ made the call just after 10 p.m. ET.

Bush is the second member of the Squad to lose a primary this cycle thanks in part to spending from the pro-Israel lobby. In June, Rep. Jamaal Bowman of New York’s 16th district lost his reelection bid to George Latimer . AIPAC spent at least $14.5 million in that race.

In January, Punchbowl news reported that Bush was being probed for the possible ” misspending of federal security money.”

The Missouri first congressional district includes all of St. Louis and parts of northern St. Louis County.

“This is only the beginning,” Bush told the AP before primary day. “Because if they can unseat me, then they’re going to continue to come after more Democrats.”
