Mingo County man with felony warrants apprehended by deputies following foot pursuit
MINGO COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — A Mingo County man with felony warrants was apprehended by deputies last week and is now suspected of distributing illegal drugs. Eric Keith Murphy, 44, of Williamson, has been charged with malicious wounding, wanton endangerment, possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver a counterfeit controlled substance, fleeing on foot and obstructing an officer, according to a news release from the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department.

Thunder in the Valley: Panthers host midnight practice on first day of full contact
NAUGATUCK — For the second year in a row, the Tug Valley Panthers held a midnight practice on the first day that full contact was allowed in practice. The practice, which was held on Saturday, Aug. 10 at Bob Brewer Stadium, was the highlight of the preseason up to this point according to sixth-year head coach Hady Ford.
Back-to-school event held in Kermit
The Ninth Annual Ruth’s Party in the Park was held Aug. 3 at the John Crum Memorial Park in Kermit. Lead organizer Marlene Spaulding, who is executive director of ABLE Families and the organization that again sponsored this year’s event, said 200 backpacks filled with school supplies were given out to area kids from both Mingo and Martin (Kentucky) counties. Returning students were also provided free haircuts just outside of town at Greyeagle, courtesy of Chad Damron and Desiree Blackburn. Those attending were also treated to a hot dog lunch, as well as a giant water slide that again this year was sponsored by Kermit United Baptist Church.
Belfry hosts Raceland in first scrimmage of 2024

Lincoln County Sheriff's Department makes arrest in church break-ins
YAWKEY, W.Va. — A Hamlin man was arrested Thursday in connection with a series of church break-ins. On Aug. 8, Lincoln County Sheriff Gary Linville was contacted by Lincoln 911 after a possible breaking and entering was reported at the Sumerco Church of God at Yawkey. According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, Linville arrived on scene and located and arrested Tanner Fugate, 25, of Hamlin.
