Greeley School Resource Officers were alerted to an alleged assault by a teacher at Maplewood Elementary School.</p><p>The incident was reported to school authorities by the student’s guardian, prompting immediate action from both the school district and law enforcement.</p><h2>Greeley Police Department Stepped In</h2><figure><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=0LWtRH_0vlrBl4A00" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=0LWtRH_0vlrBl4A00" width="1600" height="1067" ><figcaption>Canva</figcaption></figure><p>The Greeley-Evans School District 6 Administrators and District 6 Security notified the Greeley Police Department of the situation, leading to a criminal investigation.</p><p>The teacher involved is 40-year-old Joshua David Wainscott. At first, Wainscott was placed on administrative leave by the district as the investigation was happening.</p><p>The Greeley Police Department then stepped in to conduct their own investigation.</p><p>On September 12, Wainscott was arrested by the Greeley Police Department. Wainscott was taken to the Weld County Jail. The charges he faces are 2nd Degree Assault–Strangulation, classified as a Class 4 Felony, and Child Abuse, a Class 3 Misdemeanor.</p><h2>Investigation Continues in Greeley</h2><p><a href="https://kdvr.com/news/local/greeley-teacher-arrested-accused-of-assaulting-student/">Fox31</a> claims they have the affidavit of the arrest and they say that there is video evidence of the incident.</p><blockquote><p>Officers said Wainscott was seen grabbing a student and picking him up with his arm around his neck and taking the student from outside to inside the school. - Morgan Whitley</p></blockquote><p>According to the press release, Wainscott is still innocent until proven guilty and the Greeley Police Department is continuing its investigation.
