Dodgers place Tyler Glasnow on 15-day IL with lower back tightness
The Dodgers announced that they have placed right-hander Tyler Glasnow on the 15-day injured list with lower back tightness. Righty Michael Petersen has been recalled in a corresponding move. Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic previously relayed word from manager Dave Roberts on X that Glasnow would be hitting the IL...
Big bats return to Phillies' lineup in time for Dodgers showdown
The Phillies announced Tuesday that first baseman Bryce Harper and designated hitter Kyle Schwarber have been reinstated from the injured list. In corresponding moves, infielder/outfielder Kody Clemens was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, while outfielder David Dahl was designated for assignment. The Phils had to subtract two big bats from...
Marlins Sign Adam Oller To Minor League Deal
The Marlins have signed right-hander Adam Oller to a minor league deal, per Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 on X. The righty will presumably report to Triple-A Jacksonville at some point in the near future. Oller, 29, signed a minor league deal with the Guardians in the offseason but was...
Marlins unlikely to move left-hander, pair of outfielders
The Marlins are open to offers on center fielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. and will have multiple bullpen pieces available in the next three weeks, but they’re not planning to move anyone and everyone on the roster. Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports that the Fish aren’t going to move lefty Jesus Luzardo until he’s fully healthy again, which likely points to an offseason trade or even a deal at next year’s deadline. Mish adds that Bryan De La Cruz and Jesus Sanchez are both likely to stay in South Florida as well. De La Cruz has already drawn interest, but he and Sanchez are both controllable through the 2027 season.
Nationals preparing to be trade-deadline sellers
The Nationals have been on the periphery of the postseason picture for much of the season but are preparing to approach the trade deadline as a seller, per Ken Rosenthal, Katie Woo and Patrick Mooney of The Athletic. Washington will be open to offers both on potential free agents and...
Mets reliever set for season-ending surgery
Mets reliever Drew Smith will undergo season-ending elbow surgery on Friday, he tells Tim Healey of Newsday. The righty is still unsure whether he’ll need a complete Tommy John surgery or the slightly less significant internal brace procedure. It’s not uncommon for the surgeon to make that decision during the operation based on the extent of the ligament damage.
Mariners Outright Seby Zavala
The Mariners announced that catcher Seby Zavala went unclaimed on waivers. He was outrighted back to Triple-A Tacoma. Zavala has the right to elect free agency because he has been outrighted multiple times in his career, though he accepted his previous assignment to Tacoma a couple weeks ago. Zavala spent...
Reds Recall Rece Hinds For MLB Debut, Outright Levi Jordan
The Reds made a handful of moves before tonight’s series opener with the Rockies. Cincinnati recalled outfield prospect Rece Hinds in his first MLB promotion. They also brought up righty reliever Yosver Zulueta from Triple-A Louisville. In corresponding moves, the Reds optioned right-hander Graham Ashcraft and placed outfielder Stuart Fairchild on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to July 7) with a spinal disc injury.
Angels designate former All-Star for assignment
The Angeles announced they’ve designated infielder Miguel Sanó for assignment. The move opens active and 40-man roster space for Anthony Rendon, who is back from the 60-day injured list. Sanó made a return to professional baseball this year after sitting out the 2023 season. He signed a minor...
Diamondbacks release two-time Gold Glove winner
The D-backs have released veteran catcher Tucker Barnhart following last week’s DFA, per the team’s transaction log at MLB.com. He’s now a free agent. Barnhart, 33, signed a minor league deal with the Snakes back in January. He’s technically in the second season of a two-year, $6.5MM contract signed with the Cubs in the 2022-23 offseason. Chicago released him from that contract last August after he hit just .202/.285/.257 in 123 plate appearances. The Dodgers quickly scooped him up on a minor league deal but didn’t bring him to the majors before the season’s end.
Mariners activate reliever Gregory Santos from 60-day IL
The Mariners are getting a big arm back in the bullpen, as they announced Monday that right-hander Gregory Santos has been reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Seattle already had an open 40-man spot to accommodate the move, and righty Emerson Hancock was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma to open a spot on the active 26-man roster.
Angels to be stingy with club-controlled players?
The Angels are one of the few obvious deadline sellers at the moment, but even they might not be fully open for business. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale suggests that the club prefers to hold onto outfielder Taylor Ward and starters Tyler Anderson and Griffin Canning, due to the fact all three are signed/controlled into next season. If the Angels are reluctant to move anyone signed or controlled beyond the current campaign, that would extend to Luis Rengifo as well.
Braves exploring trade market for outfield help
The Braves are actively surveying the trade market to bolster their outfield group, reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Atlanta recently brought veteran Eddie Rosario back on a minor league deal after he was released by the Nationals, but president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos is also canvassing the market for more certain upgrades. Talks to this point have been “preliminary” in nature, Rosenthal adds.
Report: 'Growing belief' Marlins will trade one-time All-Star
The Marlins announced their status as deadline sellers more than two months ago with their surprising early trade of Luis Arraez, and with the July 30 trade deadline approaching, their activity on that front should pick back up. While much of the focus has been on closer Tanner Scott, who’s...
Phillies about to receive huge offensive boost with injury returns
The Phillies were shut out in Sunday's 6-0 loss to the Braves, dropping Philadelphia to a respectable 5-4 record in its nine games without injured sluggers Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper. The good news is that at least Schwarber will be activated from the 10-day injured list for the Phils’ next game on Tuesday and Harper seems on track to be activated at some point this week, even if Tuesday is still up in the air for the former NL MVP.
MLB announces 2024 All-Star rosters
The starting lineups for the 94th All-Star Game were revealed earlier this week and the league has now announced the rest of the National League and American League rosters for the upcoming Midsummer Classic on July 16 in Arlington, Texas. Each roster is comprised of 32 players – the nine starting position players determined by fan voting, and then 23 pitchers and backup position players selected by both a player ballot and input from the Commissioner’s office.
Twins place utility player on 10-day IL
Before Sunday’s game with the Astros, the Twins placed Austin Martin on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to June 6) with a left oblique strain. Outfielder Matt Wallner was called up from Triple-A in the corresponding move, and Wallner was in the lineup Sunday as Minnesota’s starting left fielder.
Phillies reportedly interested in Athletics outfielder
The Phillies are “keeping a close eye on” A’s outfielder Brent Rooker ahead of the trade deadline, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski suggested last month that the club may look to add only modestly ahead of the trade deadline on July 30, and highlighted the bullpen as an area where the team could stand to improve.
Kevin Pillar likely to retire following 2024 season
Veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar is planning to retire following the 2024 campaign, he told USA Today’s Bob Nightengale in a recent interview. The 35-year-old veteran has played in parts of 12 big league seasons, including seven seasons with the Blue Jays. Pillar previously suited up for the Mets, Rockies, Giants, White Sox, Dodgers, Red Sox and Braves throughout his lengthy MLB career and currently plays for the Angels.
Rockies designate right-hander for assignment
The Rockies announced Sunday morning that they’ve designated right-hander Dakota Hudson for assignment. The move clears a space on the active roster for right-hander Tanner Gordon, whose contract selection was previously reported ahead of his start against the Royals Sunday afternoon. Colorado’s 40-man roster stands at 39. Hudson,...
