An Alabama K-9 officer collapsed and died while on duty tracking a burglary suspect.

On June 30, 2024, Malice, a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois K-9 Deputy, died while assisting another agency. Despite immediate medical attention and being rushed to MedVet on Government Boulevard, Malice tragically passed away.

Malice was a dual-purpose K-9 who recently showcased his skills in a week-long competition at the National Police K-9 Association. During his tenure with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Malice had five apprehensions and played a significant role in the seizure of 10 pounds of methamphetamine and over 12 pounds of marijuana. Additionally, Malice was active in community outreach, participating in events with the Drug Education Council of Mobile.

Deputy Jantzen Ward, Malice’s handler and partner, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “Malice was not only a loyal partner; he was a trusted and loved member of my family. He will be missed and never forgotten.”

The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office extends a heartfelt “Thank you” to everyone at MedVet Mobile for their dedicated care of Malice. The department and community mourn the loss of a brave and committed K-9 officer who served with distinction.
