Legislators to examine audit policies in Department of Social Services
BROOKINGS, SD (KELO.com) — Legislative leaders are eager to begin work to unravel a $1.8-million embezzlement case within the South Dakota Department of Social Services. Former employee Lonna Carroll is accused of embezzling the money over a 13-year period. Brookings Senator Tim Reed is a member of the Government Operations Audit Committee. In addition to learning how it happened, he wants to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. — Arina Haugen joined a rare South Dakota company on July 20. The Sturgis High School sophomore-to-be claimed the All-Around Rookie Cowgirl title at the National High School Finals Rodeo. She’s just the third South Dakotan to earn the honor, joining Buffalo’s Kayla Nelson (1999) and Faith’s Dusti Varland (2004).

LINCOLN COUNTY, S.D. - A 28-year-old man died Friday, July 19, in a two-vehicle collision five miles northeast of Beresford, SD. Initial reports indicate that Darrian O’Neal Cline, driving a 2019 Jeep Cherokee, was heading east on 294th Street near 474th Avenue. Meanwhile, Michael D. Stinton was driving a Volvo semi-truck west on 294th Street. For reasons still under investigation, the Jeep crossed into the westbound lanes and collided head-on with the semi.
