I have a son who is ‘out of control’, to say the least… I currently have full custody of him as his mother had some issues in the past and lost her rights. His mother is currently in the picture and doing much better, but still has no ‘official/legal’ rights, just for reference. He is currently staying at his mother’s house as he does not want to be at my house due to my ‘stricter’ rules. He is equally, if not more, disrespectful to his real mother than to his stepmother.

I am at my wit’s end on what to do when the school and local PD have offered no solution, and I will soon be hit with a truancy case, more than likely due to him not going to school.

Here is a list of some of the things this child has accomplished thus far:

    1. Doesn’t come in at ‘curfew,’ which we set at 9 pm at the latest on weekdays, and decides to come in when he feels like it.
    2. He continuously takes his mother’s and brother’s things and claims they are his now. He pretty much steals from family members and feels he is owed it for whatever reason.
    3. Had to call 911 the other day? He was caught throwing multiple things from the garage into the woods after his phone was locked for not going to school.
    4. He is extremely disrespectful to his stepmother, and calls her all sorts of terrible names.
    5. When faced with any consequences, he immediately gets angry and begins to lash out by blaming others, screaming/yelling/raging, punching walls/doors, knocking things over, and purposely making a mess of the kitchen.
    6. He has said these same things to his stepmother personally.
    7. He uses his grandfather as a scapegoat when he gets in trouble. He is very manipulative with Pap; Pap will defend him one moment, then switch it up for a few minutes then right back to defend him.
    8. Does not listen in school, and disrespects teachers nearly every day. When told to do something, he says no. He will curse teachers out in the middle of class and has done it while walking to the office.
    9. Has been suspended numerous times for his insubordination and for causing class disturbances or cursing out teachers.
    10. Have had to call the police on him numerous times for not coming home at night, skipping school (walked to a friend’s house and slept), and even at one point running away from school itself when I dropped him off personally.
    11. I have contacted the crisis hotline in an attempt to get help with my son but was not offered anything but some basic advice, and they asked for his contact info.
    12. I have asked the local police for advice and help on the situation, and they say their hands are full/tied and cannot force him to go to school.
    13. I have signed papers for the school to offer him counseling while in school, but I do not believe this has taken place yet due to his not cooperating.
    14. He is failing multiple classes in school and refuses to take responsibility for it.
    15. Almost for certain, my son is using not kid-friendly products of some sort due to his mood swings and finding vape pens in ‘his friend’s backpack’, although it was left at our hom
    16. He will go out in the street and scream when he doesn't get his way, in order to cause frustration to the neighbors as well.
