The other day, my MIL arrived up at my house unannounced, then proceeded to not tell my husband the truth

I work from home and it was my birthday. My son was in daycare. My MIL shows up at the door, lets herself in (we have a code lock) carrying a bag of food.

She tells me she brought food for my husband and son and puts it on the table.

I didn’t say anything but ok and continued to work on my computer. We have a language barrier and I’ve learned to just never speak a word and nod my head all the time.

My FIL comes in and they decide they are going to clean my fridge. I was like um ok.. and started to pack up my stuff to leave and go to my mom's house down the street to continue my work day.

When I say my ILs are overbearing, this is an understatement. I have had so many sleepless nights and raging arguments over these people constantly crossing my boundaries. My husband and I have split several times over them. They are the absolute worst. I could go on and on. But anyways let me continue this one instance for anyone still reading.

I have learned to not communicate with them at all, let them come over and I just go in my room. It sounds awful but it’s made my life a lot more peaceful.

Anyways the interaction was as follows.. they were being very loud cleaning the back of my fridge so I packed up to leave. I said I was still working and now need to leave because you're being loud. Then my FIL was asking me about renovations and I told him I wanted to do the basement. He told me no and to buy a bigger house. I said these exact words “I make “x” a year and my husband makes “x” a year, we cannot afford a bigger home. Pray that we win the lottery” and I laughed it off.

I went out the door.

Two days later my husband says he needs to talk to me about something.

He tells me my MIL was crying to him that she came over to be helpful and fix my fridge and the first thing I said to her when I walked in the door was “it’s my birthday, where are my presents???”

Oh and she said I was bragging about all the money I make and saying my husband is not rich enough to buy me a bigger house.

I laughed. My husband was upset. I was like honestly believe what you want.

She wants us to fight. She’s absolutely insane. Who would said it’s my birthday where are my presents?

This is not just innocent misinterpretation of what I say. I never told her it was birthday and I never said my husband was not rich enough.

Every interaction with her ends up this way. She tells my husband something and wants him to set me straight. She tells my husband I’m not a good mother, I treat him like a “stray dog”, white women are users and evil.

Yet when I’ve left my husband over the way his horrible family has treated me, she cries to me and says please don’t divorce my son.

Anyways the food she brought only my husband and son on my birthday was not eaten and we went out for dinner as we originally planned. I don’t feel bad about that.
